Maria Torres, 82, of Addison, IL passed away Friday, December 6, 2019 at home with loved ones by her side. Maria was born on December 21, 1936 in Mission, Texas. She had an amazing smile and loved to sing and dance. Her home was the epicenter of family affairs and would bring people together to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and championship seasons in sports. It was the place where everyone would play Jenga, make tamales, wear matching Batman t-shirts, and rollerblade in the street. She was the matriarch of the Torres family and expressed her love unconditionally every day of her life. Her example lives on in every member of the family. Maria is preceded in death by her parents Julian and Hilaria Garza; her husband Guadalupe Torres; her son Guadalupe Torres, Jr.; her daughters who were born and rose to Heaven Maria Torres, Rosa Torres, and Jane Torres; and her siblings Manuel Garza, Margarita Nunez Murillo, Julian Ramon Garza, and Juan Garza. Maria is survived by five of her children and their spouses Francisco and Monica Torres, Raul Torres, Martin and Karen Torres, Norma and Chico Santiago, and Demetrio and Marlo Torres; her five grandchildren and their spouses Martin V. and Natalia Torres, Carissa E. and Javier Guzman II, David A. Santiago, Demetrio Torres, Jr., and Marco Torres; and her eight great grandchildren: Liliana M. Guzman, Natalie E. Guzman, Javier Guzman III, Sofia Torres, Diego Torres, Jordyn Evans, Giana E. Guzman, and Jasmine A. Guzman. Maria is also survived by her sisters Oralia Palomo, Ernestina Albarran, and Maria Luisa Pena. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 11 from 4:00 to 8:00 at O’Connor – Leetz Funeral Home, 364 Division Street, Elgin, IL. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, December 12 at 10:00 a.m. at O’Connor-Leetz Funeral Home and will be officiated by Pastor Jeffrey Mikyska of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at Lakewood Memorial Park, 30W730 U.S. Highway 20, Elgin immediately following the service.
