Maria Monserrate, 67 of Streamwood, died Wednesday, June 24th at Heritage Health Care Center, Elgin.  Born March 28, 1948 in Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of Juan and Pastora (Lopez) Mendez.

She was proud to be a Girl Scout leader in Elgin, and was actively involved with the parents, teachers, and children of McKinley School.  She enjoyed crafts, gardening, and her beloved dogs, Chopper and Susi.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Modesto, and Manuel, and one niece, Nicole.

She is survived by her loving husband James of 43 years; two children, Jonathan (Consiglia) Monserrate of Des Plaines, and Amanda Monserrate of Streamwood; 2 grandchildren, Kaylee, and Dylan; 2 brothers, Jesse Mendez of Mundelein, Robert Mendez of Chicago; 2 sisters, Carmen Linda Santana of Elmwood Park, and Michelle Navarette of Villa Park.  Many  nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 29th   at the O’Connor – Leetz Funeral Home, Elgin from 9:00 a.m. until the time of funeral mass at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Elgin with Fr. Chris Kuhn, officiating.  Burial will follow at the Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery, Elgin.  For more information, please call (847) 741-1400.
