Luis M. Diaz, 65, of Elgin died Monday, March 3, 2008 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. Born December 31, 1942 in Uriangato GTO, Mexico, He has been a resident of Elgin since July of 1959. He was the son of Jose and Josefina (Malagon) Diaz.

He built La Roca grocery store in 1973 and has owned and operated the Elgin neighborhood business for over 35 years. He also owned and operated La Puesta Del Sol Restaurant and was a well-known and respected member of Elgin’s Hispanic community. Luis was very a loving brother, husband, father and grandfather, and will be remembered for his caring and giving heart.

Luis is preceded in death by his father, Jose Diaz, and grandparents, Leo and Felisa Diaz.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Virginia Diaz; mother, Josefina Diaz; 2 daughters, Sandra (Victor) Camarena, Maria L. (Rafael) Guzman; 4 sons, Marco (Alexandria) Diaz, Jose L. (Asminda) Diaz, Jr., Andrew Diaz and Victor M. Diaz; brother, Manuel (Beatriz) Diaz; sister, Maria S. (Gonzalo) Avina; 18 grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 6, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary Service at 7:00 P.M. at O’Connor – Leetz Funeral Home, Elgin. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Elgin with Fr. Leonardo Maldonado, officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Elgin.
