Larry B. Barnwell, 71, of Elgin died Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Sherman Hospital. Born on July 7, 1937, he was the son of Loal and Rose (Taylor) Barnwell.
He was a lifelong resident of Elgin, IL, and retired from the Flender Corp. in 2000. Larry was a devoted father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be missed by many family and friends.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Loal and Rose Barnwell; sisters, Shirley and Lula Barnwell; and grandchildren, Megan Lee Pfortmiller and Kaylee Lynn Zerin.
He is survived by wife of 50 years, Marcia Barnwell; two daughters, Jodi Barnwell (James) Collins and Lynette Kaye Barnwell (Michael) Dildine; grandchildren, Jessica, Shannon and Gavin Pfortmiller, Anthony, Allen and Austin Dildine; and great-grandchildren, Rori and Gemma Thompson; sisters, Mary Clark, Marcia (Larry) Wallace, Marjorie (Robert) Huss; niece, Christine (Michael) Krueger, great-niece, Breanna Krueger and great-nephew, Zachary Krueger; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 27, 2009 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at O’Connor – Leetz Funeral Home, Elgin. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at O’Connor – Leetz Funeral Home, Pastor John Nelson of Hosanna Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Memorials in Larry’s memory may be made to the family. Marcia, i just found out about Barney’s passing. I’m sorry for your loss but happy to hear he had family and a pack of grand kids around him. barney was a much better friend to me than i ever was to him. he was a special guy. I’ll remember him and our old cb days fondly for the rest of my life. i hope he, and you, forgave me for the az thing…. i really loved that guy.
