Irene A. Oclon (nee Kossakowski) died June 20, 2009 at the age of 90. Irene was born on November 17, 1918 in Chicago, Illinois.

Visitation for Irene will held on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 from 9:00 until 11:00 AM at the O’Connor – Leetz Funeral Home, Elgin, 364 Division St. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM at St. Thomas More Church, Fr. Arturo Mallari, officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Elgin.

Irene was a devoted mother to her five children, Joseph, Kathleen (Marcel), James (Judy), Steven (Rowena), and Albert.

Her parents (Albert and Julia) were Polish immigrants that came to America in 1911 to seek a better life, and they fathered nine children; Tony, John, Wanda, Betty, Harriet, Angeline, Helen and Estelle. Irene marks the end of a generation as she was the last to pass in her family. She also was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph Oclon whom she married on August 5, 1939, and her loving son, James.

Irene was a proud grandparent of nine children; Joseph J., Clifton, and Matthew Oclon, Felicia and Marco Zablockij, Gregory and Jackie Oclon, and Brittany and Rebecca Oclon; and a great-grandmother of Makayla Oclon.

She was a dietary technician at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin until her retirement and was active as part of the volunteer staff for many years after.
