Douglas James Van Vleet, 36 of Elgin, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. The son of Debbie Franzese and James Van Vleet, Doug was born July 12, 1978. He was a devoted and loving father, husband, son, and brother, and a trusted friend to all who knew him.
Doug is survived by his wife, Kristen Hartler; three children: Evan, 9, Kailey, 7 and Ellie, 3; twin sister, Angie Montero, younger sister, Betsy Van Vleet, best friend and cousin Joseph Franzese, nieces and nephews; Alyssa Van Vleet, Julian Summers, Alex Van Vleet, Madisen Montero, Mikaela Montero, Luka Mensik, Riley Mensik, Lexi Mensik, Josh Jyawook, and Zayla Jyawook.
Doug’s children were the center of his world. He offered his home and heart to all. Doug lit up a room with his energy, kindness, and generosity. A successful and dedicated Realtor, Doug lived to help others. His brilliance was evident at a young age as he excelled in Math and Sciences. He loved adventure, scuba diving, biking, traveling, exploring big cities, and being with family and friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2015 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at O’Connor-Leetz Funeral Home, 364 Division Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. also held at O’Connor-Leetz Funeral Home. Immediately following will be the burial at Lakewood Memorial Park, 30W730 U.S. Hwy 20, Elgin, IL. A reception will follow at Villa Olivia, 1401 W. Lake St., Elgin, IL.
