Annette portraitAnnette Cooks-King, 54, passed away June 7, 2016, at her home in Elgin. She was married to Willie King Sr. with whom she spent many happy years.

Annette was born October 31, 1961 in Clarksdale, Mississippi, the daughter of Mary Cooks and the late Joe Louise Cooks.

She was educated in school district U-46. As an adult she became a Certified Nursing Assistant working at Pine View Nursing Home for many years. Later, she became a Mental Health Technician and worked at the Elgin Mental Health Center for fourteen years and also worked at Maryville Academy for ten years.

Annette was a member of Life Changers Church. She enjoyed reading, dancing, traveling, and spending time with her friends. Annette loved all of her nieces and nephews very much and always kept close to them. Annette will be remembered for her tenacity and her ability to make people laugh with her wonderful sense of humor.

Annette is survived by her husband, Willie King Sr., her mother Mary Cooks, two sons; Willie Cooks and Javelle Cooks, all of Elgin, IL.,  her grandchildren; Trevell, Daz, Jy’Onnie, Ja’Myiah, August, and Malachi. Also her three sisters; Lynette Cooks of Michigan City, Indiana, Joann (Tony) McPherson, and Delois Cooks of Elgin, IL along with two sisters-in-law; Mary Ricks and Barbara Goodwin, both of Muscle Shoals, AL and two brothers-in-law; Connie King of North Carolina and Thomas King of Kenosha, WI.

She is preceded in death by her father, Joe Louise Cooks and her fraternal and maternal grandparents and mother-in-law, Louise Goodwin.

Annette will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her dearly; including a host of nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, especially those friends who shared the fondest of childhood memories; Beverly, Katira, Jackie, Alonzo and Karen.

Visitation will be held at Bethesda Church of God in Christ, 454 Hickory Place in Elgin,  on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 10:00am until time of service at noon, with Pastor James Marks officiating. Burial will be immediately following the service at Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Boulevard in Elgin. Please call O'Connor-Leetz Funeral Home at 847-741-1400 for further information.
