Lucille Iona Barton

Lucille Iona (Garrett) Barton, age 93, arrived at her eternal home early Monday 30 Apr 2012. She was born on 13 April 1919 to Nellie (White) and Albert Garrett in LaPrairie, Adams County, IL, where she lived her entire childhood. Her interest in genealogy helped many family members locate, gather and share information and photos of the ancestors during the past few years.

Her military life included training as a Flight Tracer and later as an Army surgical nurse at Camp Upton, 2^nd Service Command, Long Island NY during WWII. She was a member of the American Legion. After marriage, she resided in Elgin the remainder of her life.

Lucille and Henry Barton were married in a military chapel at Camp Upton NY on 8 August 1945. They spent 65 years together before his death in April 2010. She was a creative homemaker and loving mother of three daughters: Beverly (Wm) Spors of Sparta WI, Brenda (Clarence) Hayward and Bonnie (Jack) Roder , both of Elgin IL.

Grandma Lucy truly enjoyed every moment shared with her precious grandchildren; Barb and Todd Spors of Sparta WI, Melanie (Craig) Piotrowski of Sparta WI, Jennifer (Mike) Jurkovic of Schaumburg IL, Jason Hayward of Elgin, Sean Roder and Matt Roder (fiancée Meghan Hardy) of Elgin. She loved sharing many stories of her childhood, reading books and playing games with them. She would always have their favorite baked treats when they visited.

Great Grandma Lucy was also very special to her six great grandchildren: Hunter and Ryley Steinhoff of Sparta WI, Nina and Nate Roder of Elgin, and the newest members of the family, Wyatt Piotrowski of Sparta WI and Ella Grace Jurkovic of Schaumburg .

She will also be greatly missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Sean Roder and husband Henry.

Funeral services will be at noon on Sat 5 May 2012 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Elgin IL where she was a longtime member. Visitation will be from 10:30 am until the time of service. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin.

Memorials can be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church or to the American Legion Post 57 of Elgin.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 6 starting at 9:30 am until time of service at 12:30 at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens, Arlington Heights, IL.

Service will be Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 10:00 am at Bethseda Church of God in Christ, 454 Hickory Place, Elgin. Pastor Nolan McCants officiating.

Burial will follow at Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin.

Russell Warren Weingartner

Russell Warren Weingartner, 91, of Elgin, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospital following emergency surgery. He was born on January 27, 1920 in Newark, New Jersey, the son of John and Adeline Weingartner.

He had been a resident of Elgin for more than 28 years. In 1944 he graduated from Clemson University in South Carolina. In March 1944 Mr. Weingartner entered the United States Army Air Corps and attended officer candidate school. Upon completion of OCS, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and served in the South Pacific in the Army Air Corps during World War II, until his discharge in October 1946 as a 1st Lieutenant.

On September 23, 1946 he married Mono F. Marshall of Boyne City, Michigan. Mr. Weingartner will be greatly missed by his family. Surviving are his daughters, Ruth (Louis) Davis of Lafayette, LA and Janice (Jonathan) Carbary of Elgin; five grandchildren, Adam Davis of Lafayette, LA, Nicole (Michael) Szczepanek of Chicago, IL, Molli (Aaron) Davis of Lafayette, LA, Dana (David) Burner of Elgin, J.R. Carbary of Minnetonka, MN, and one great granddaughter, Addison Burner of Elgin.

He was a member of the Elgin Golden Kiwanis and volunteered at Sherman Hospital for many years following his retirement from the Honeywell Corporation after 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Mono.

No services will be held. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Eliza A. Beathea, 80, died Tuesday, November 29, at her home in Elgin.

Eliza was born September 17, 1931, the daughter of Goodman and Abie (Ramsey) Beathea.

Eliza is survived by her 3 sons, Michael A. Beathea, Elkhart, IN; Carl E. Beathea, Chicago, IL and Kenneth Patterson, South Bend, IN; her daughter Wynette Jackson, Lansing, MI; her eldest sister Mrs. Mildred Bradley, Chicago, IL; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that can testify to her joy of living and bringing you a laugh with a joke or two. She is preceded in death by her parents, 7 sisters and 7 brothers and her daughter Debra Ann Jackson.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 6, 2011 from 11:00 am until time of service at noon at the O’Connor-Leetz Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private.
